Audacity...Having Fun with Sound

Audacity.jpg
Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds, both voice and music or both. The sound file can be used in any of the tools we have learned about this year as well as to create Podcasts that are hosted from our webpages or blogs. Audacity allows the students to have fun with speaking and listening as they create a sound file to match the mood of their story.

Benefits:
  • Easy to Use
  • Edit out student's "um"
  • Edit out student's pauses to make reading more fluid
  • Great tool for both students and teachers

In addition to creating sound files for PhotoStory 3 and VoiceThread, other uses for Audacity include:
  • Record missed assignments for students
  • Record students reading for digital portfolio
  • Record remediation lessons
  • Record instructions for tiered activities
  • Record class songs to help with skills such as multiplication songs
  • Record book reports
  • Reader's Theater
  • Smart Notebook sound files
